A body scrub or polish treatment is an add-on service that can be invigorating and revitalizing to your skin, promoting your skin’s natural glow. It also has some great benefits! Body scrub or polish is made of either salt or sugar, carrier oil (such as coconut, almond, grapeseed, jojoba, or argan oil), essential oils, and other ingredients such as oatmeal ground apricot pit, coffee grounds, herbs, and more. Body polish is often made with more abrasive ingredients for a more potent exfoliating action, while body scrubs tend to be more nourishing and hydrating to the skin.

What To Expect

Unlike many other add-on services, body scrubs are usually performed on a table shower. A table shower is a bed that is positioned under a series of showerheads that provide powerful jets of water. The table shower generally has a comfortable, waterproof foam pad to support your body. Traditional Chinese table showers may be made of treated wooden slats with a built-in hand-held shower head. You will disrobe and cover yourself with a small towel draped over your buttocks. The practitioner will scrub your body in sections, generally starting at the feet and calves, working their way up to your back and arms. After the scrub is complete, the practitioner will rinse off the scrub and apply a mask, followed by a moisturizer.

Benefits

A body scrub treatment can help exfoliate those hard-to-reach places like your back. The body scrub will promote circulation and skin cell turnover, remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and soothe rough or dry skin. Many body scrubs contain nourishing ingredients that will hydrate and moisturize your skin. Putting lotion on your back can be an ordeal and is often skipped. By receiving a body scrub treatment, you are nurturing one of the most extensive areas of your body.

Contraindications

Body scrubs or polishes should not be applied to broken, irritated skin, open wounds, rashes, or abrasions. Those with skin sensitivities or allergies should verify the ingredients of body scrubs or polishes, masks, and moisturizers.

Frequency

Body scrub services can be used as often as you’d like. Weekly body scrub or polishing can improve skin tone and condition and may reduce back acne. Your practitioner can recommend a service schedule that will support your skin care needs.

Aftercare

Following a body scrub session, you may want to wait 12-24 hours before bathing to allow your skin to reap the benefits of the products used. You may bathe as usual and apply your usual products. If you experience any skin reaction, contact your primary care physician and seek medical attention. After you have received medical attention, inform your practitioner so they can make a note in your chart and avoid those products in the future.
